A kite safari is a liveaboard trip where a small group sails between kite spots, spending each day kiting in locations accessible only by boat. It combines the best wind windows, remote beaches, and serious progression into one intensive week.

Skill Requirements
The minimum skill level for a kite safari is IKO Level 3 — basic independent riding, upwind body drag, self-rescue knowledge. You do not need to ride upwind or perform transitions, but you must be able to manage your kite and return to the safety boat after falls.
Most safari groups include a mix of skill levels from intermediate to advanced. Guides match group sessions to the weakest rider — no one gets left behind, but strong riders get plenty of time to push their skills in more challenging conditions.
If you are at the lower edge of the skill requirement, do the Refresh Lesson at Kite Club Koh Phangan before the safari. Two hours of coaching refreshes water start, upwind drag, and self-rescue so you arrive at the safari confident rather than anxious.
Best Season for Kite Safari
Kite Club runs Red Sea safaris in Thailand's off-season: from mid/late April through May, and from September through November. When the wind at Koh Phangan becomes irregular, the northern Red Sea delivers consistent 18–30 knot winds, flat water in reef-protected lagoons and warm water. The yacht departs from Hurghada and moves between uninhabited islands.
Departures are timed so that students who trained with Kite Club during the Thai season can keep riding without a long break. Spring trips have slightly lighter wind; autumn trips are usually stronger.
The first departures after the Thai season, from late April, are the most popular. These weeks book 6–8 months in advance for VIP cabins. Book Standard cabins 3–4 months ahead. WhatsApp +66 96 720 3910 to check current availability.
Frequently Asked Questions
No — you need to be at IKO Level 3 minimum: comfortable riding on both tacks, upwind body drag, basic self-rescue. A 1-week beginner course produces Level 2–3 riders. Complete the Beginner Course first, then a short Refresh Lesson to confirm your skills before booking the safari.
The boat moves to a different spot with better wind exposure, or the day is used for snorkeling, fishing, island exploration, or relaxing onboard. No-wind days are rare on the Red Sea during our safari months, but they can happen.
The listed prices are fixed for each package tier. Group discounts apply for 4+ riders booking together on the same trip. Early booking discounts (booking 4+ months in advance) are sometimes available — ask us directly.
Equipment wear and tear is included. Damage caused by negligence (e.g., dragging kite over rocks, failing to depower when told to) is billed at replacement cost. Standard kite damage from learning-related falls is not charged.
