The thrill of e-foiling is not the aggressive, heart-pounding rush of other sports. It's a smooth, blissful ascent. A first session typically begins on the beach with simple practical wisdom: "This is the go button, this is how you lean, always wear your helmet." The goal is to get into the water quickly.

Key stages of the first flight: realising the board is more stable than it looks, getting the feel for the throttle (super sensitive and smooth), the first wobbly attempt to stand, and then — that heart-stopping moment when the foil engages and the board lifts. Everything goes quiet. You just glide.

The island's west coast is dotted with beaches protected from the open ocean, creating expanses of flat water especially in early mornings. A good rental provides a board and foil matched to your weight, a fully charged battery, all safety equipment, and a quick refresher on use. While e-foiling is a year-round activity, the ideal time is during calmer seasons — making it a great alternative when there's no wind for kitesurfing or wing foiling.

Efoil Lessons and Prices at Chaloklum Beach

Our efoil school in Koh Phangan runs every session 1-on-1 at Chaloklum Beach on the north shore. The Intro (30 min, 2,000 THB) is the easiest way to try efoil surfing; a full 1-hour efoil lesson costs 3,500 THB (3,000 THB for repeat riders and rental), and the Freedom Package (5 × 1 hour) costs 13,000 THB. Every efoil board lesson includes the instructor, helmet, impact vest, radio and a free phone video of your ride — drone filming (+1,000 THB) and an edited video (+2,000 THB) are optional. It is one of the few places to try efoil in Thailand without booking a boat trip.

E-Foil Safety

The electric motor is controlled via a handheld wireless remote with a dead-man safety cutoff — if you fall and release the remote, the motor stops immediately. Riders always wear impact vests and helmets. Sessions are conducted in designated calm water areas away from other water users. First sessions are closely supervised with the instructor in the water alongside you.
